We stopped in here on our around the country road trip. We avoided chain restaurants at all costs and Stonewalls was a very pleasant surprise. Maybe their staff has improved since some of the other reviewers, but we had lovely service that was not too slow at all, and there were quite a few tables when we were there. Ambience is nice. Their own roasted coffee was delicious. Anything bread related is fresh baked and yummy. Our meals were overall wonderful. Stop in on your way to/from Mt Rushmore if you are staying in Rapid City. It's a gem!

Absolutely love their pizza and their smoked salmon! The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because they are really really slow.

Service is friendly, but slow. We were among the first people there for lunch, so maybe they were just getting ready? Very long wait for food - even cheese bread appetizer took over 30 minutes! We were there over 1.5 hours for lunch. With kids and a toddler in tow, this place pushed our limits! Atmosphere is very nice, but there is a faint grease smell. I thought maybe it is because I am pregnant (again...) and super sensitive, but my daughter commented that it smelled yucky there too. The cheese bread was good - the sauce had a nice kick to it. The smoked salmon and cheese appetizer was really tasty. The salmon was a whole piece of fish, not sliced and it was delicious. It came with fresh bread, 3 cheeses, apples and strawberries. By the time the entrees came, we were already full. The margherita pizza, grilled cheese and BLT were pretty standard. I would have liked this place better without the kids - the wait would have been more tolerable. Don't come here if you are on any kind of schedule. The food, atmosphere (minus the grease-type odor) and the friendly service make it worth a try.

Great pizza. Lovely atmosphere and patio. Nice Staff. Disappointed with the salad. Needed a Greek dressing and to be dressed before being served.

If you want diner food in a faux-fancy dining room, this is the place for you! We had no frills pancakes and eggs, which were OK. The service was the real kicker. There was a young man condescending to the female employees about how he didn't want to have to teach them how to be servers. Then he spent 15-minutes making takeout espresso drinks while loudly sucking mucus into the back of his throat. I couldn't take it any more, and I asked him to blow his nose, that it was kind of grossing us out. He said nothing, and continued making the espresso.

Stonewalls has great pizzas, salads, sandwiches and wonderful homemade soups -- we loved their creamy mushroom soup ( loaded with mushrooms) and their tomatillo soup was superb! The carrot cake is amazing, too. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is homey but inviting. I've heard good things about their dinners, but haven't tried one yet.

Not impressed. Service was not the greatest, waitress was rude, service slow, crust burnt........overall experience not worth the pricey tab!

Overrated. We've eaten dinner 1X and breakfast 3X. Breakfast is nothing spectacular. With eggs, hash browns and bacon being over $12.00, I except something wonderful to happen. They are greasy. That isn't special. Since Stonewall's is close to our digs, we could tolerate the cost if service were better. The 3rd visit, we waited 35 minutes for our breakfast! Crazy. Even the waiter got fidgety. That finished us. We now go to Millstone's. What the heck... On the bright side, the home ground coffee bar is very nice. You have to get up and get your own refills, but its worth it. Next, our Friday night dinner experience was a bust. We ordered the most expensive cut of meat they had, and it was dry. I cant even remember if I had salad because the whole dinner was a disappointment. Last, don't let them seat you in the back room. Besides feeling excommunicated from the actual human diners in the front of the restaurant, they put families back there at the long table. The two times we were placed in that room, obnoxiously loud children ran around the room ruining the ambiance of the dinner. We can go to Denny's for that. Two thumbs down.

Higher quality food than many of the other options around. Great pizza crust. Shrimp on spinach salad was grilled perfectly. Salads were quite good. Nice, friendly service and well shaded patio.

The pizza is delicious and different from anything else you can get in town. Good service, friendly owner, nice atmosphere.

A nice place for a meal in the Black Hills. Good for a mixed group, when someone wants a pizza and someone else wants a burger, especially if you'd like a little wine or beer with your meal. The Spinach Artichoke dip appetizer is highly recommended! We like to come for burgers and to try some of the small brewery dark beers they have on selection (they generally have something nice from Rogue...) However, my wife and I miss the Buffalo Burger which was missing from the menu the last time I went... I hope it comes back for the summer!

The breakfast is outstanding. Biscuits and gravy are a must!

Very interesting beer list with many options outside the typical, boring selection that most restaurants offer. The service was prompt, and the food was well executed.

Update from our previous review... Last visit which was our first one is a sharp contrast to this visit (same night of the week). Both were at dinnertime I strongly suggest eating elsewhere. Waitress was slow and had a poor attitude, different cook than last time---pizza was a wet, greasy, sloppy mess---not what you would expect of a stone fire pizza. Definitely not work the $50 for two meals and three salads! STAY AWAY and GO ELSEWHERE!!!!!!

Actually, the REAL review for this is somewhere like a 2.7, but I didn't have that option. I've been here and sampled both the lunch and dinner menu. Once for a sandwich for lunch and several times for pizza. Let me clarify some things. IF you're a tourist and from somewhere else, you may be disappointed with this place. However, if you're a local and trying to find a halfway decent pizza joint anywhere in the Hills, it might please you. The pizzarias in the Black Hills are generally mind-blowingly awful. But this one is better than all those. At least their food is homemade and not from distributors or corporate offices. However, the lunch sandwich I had was only fair, and my friend's sandwich was terrible (over cooked bacon, dried out bread that should have been tossed). So you might be wondering, why the high rating? Well, they have a very good wine menu, for starters. And the ONLY REAL reason to come here is: 1. a lovely, atmosphere with big wooden booths (great for small groups of 3-4) and 2. their stone-fired pizza is pretty good. I wouldn't recommend anything else on the menu other than that. Yet, there are some drawbacks to their pizza. 1. Depending upon who's running the stove, it can easily get too done on the bottom, as in slightly burned. 2. They are VERY expensive for a pizzaria compared to other places in the hills (ex. Botticelli's on 523 Main St. downtown) and for such a casual place. 3. Paying for extra toppings isn't really worth it. When I say "EXTRA" cheese I mean it, as in 1 c. more of cheese. However, like I said, their pizza tastes homemade and they DO use quality ingredients. And if you're dying for "baked over a fire stove" then this is your place. Just be prepared for a pricey bill, especially if you order wine.

The only thing consistent about this place is that it has the WORST service ever. The food isn't great, and it's never the same. Please keep driving, and save your money for wherever you're going. Better offerings in Hill City, Custer, Rapid City, and even Box Elder in terms of a staff who knows what they're doing, a meal that you can get within an hour of ordering, and edible food.

If you're in need of great pizza in RC, this is your best bet! Piesano's Pacchia is probably second to this place.

Get the pizza. Everything else is pretty much bad. By far the most pricy meal on our whole trip. Service was slow. Iced tea is flavored. Waitress couldn't care less.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
